The day 17th June 1980 was one of those that we usually recall
as unforgettable ... at the end of the afternoon
I was heading to the Gröner Lund,
a park in Stockholm to register the concert scheduled
for the evening, Bob Marley & The Wailers.
My first idea was to photograph that group of
Jamaicans who had revolutionized the music scene
worldwide, and especially the picture of their
mythical leader, one of the most striking characters
of twentieth century’s second half. But
when, moments before the concert, positioned between
the stage and audience, the space reserved for
the press, I began to realize that the public
who gathered in my face was like the realization
of many of the messages of that composer. That
little crowd, united different races, tribes,
generations ... united two decades, which later
proved to be so different. In the midst of these
thoughts the show began ... then the music sediments
this communion, and I was sure that besides shooting
the show itself, I should take advantage of that
stubborn Scandinavian spring sun, and also register
the realization of that powerful message that
was coming by the loud speakers ... "One
love, one heart."
Unfortunately, little more than three months after,
the city of Pittsburgh, USA, would held the closure
of the Uprising Tour, which would be the last
of this great artist. The publication of this
material, which remained unpublished for nearly
thirty years, is a tribute to this man and his
demands, increasingly current in our days, for
peace and unity.
